I heard an AA describe the problems in their marriage, and it rang a bell for problems in my recovery: two chiefs in one teepee. Well, when I am getting myself into a swivet, it often boils down to
too many chiefs in my old teepee!
My teepee can get Oh so uncomfortable when me, myself and I wrestle for control of my life, while fending off power grabs from resentment and fear. And the trouble is I have often invited these pushy, domineering things in of my own accord!
Only one Chief has the right to rule – and it isn’t me or my feelings. Daily, some times hourly, the psalmist’s plea is mine:
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24)
How’s your teepee? Are your wrestling with too many chiefs?
