My Prayer Life

I can’t pinpoint the moment when it dawned on me, but it was an A-HA! moment that changed my prayer life.

 That moment was momentous, when I realized other people, different places or more or less things would not be the answer to my prayers.

More momentous was the moment I came to understand even I could not be an answer to my prayers.

Letting go of all I thought I couldn’t live without was— is— the answer to my prayers, even when I can’t find words.  (Romans 8:27)

Arrow Prayers, Informed Prayer

My prayer life is full of arrows —It improves if I open my Bible, or read other Christians’ meditations.

Working the STEPS, especially working through The 12 & 12, I see ways I coulda, shoulda, woulda  prayed better prayers. ( James 4:1-5, The Message)

Making meetings enriches my prayer life, the way leaven enriches dough; never one have I left without a deeper appreciation of God’s grace and mercy, and life lessons others teach me about recovery.

Here’s where the slogans help  my prayer life, too (Slogans Are Useful Tools)

A Work in Progress

My recovery from alcoholism, me-ism, and other stuff is daily —progress, not perfection is how I was told to work the program. It’s how I am still learning to pray.

God help me — to quit trying to keep drinking.
Please help me to live without booze, or independent of You.

GOD, grant me the serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change,

Courage to change the
things I can, and the
wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the
pathway to peace.

Taking, as He did, this
sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.

Trusting that He will make
all things right if I
surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy
in this life, and supremely
happy with Him forever in
the next.
Amen

A final word

Five years ago, I reflected upon a Psalm that wholly helped me live with a three-fold disease: Have You Ever Seen Death? Have You Ever Hear Life?

Praying for YOU dear reader, and so grateful you stopped by.

Love in Christ,

Sober and Grateful
